Meet André, the cult-favourite tattoo artist @hellyeahsorrymum. who describes his work as 'Hello Kitty meets H. R. Granger'.
Hey André! You're our first male collaborator. How did you approach designing female underwear?
"For someone who had no taste in underwear it was quite difficult to start with. I tried to work on this project with the most love and respect... I just wanted to create something that would be fun and dramatic, in a sexy and cute and mysterious way. Ideally something powerful but also fun that would feel great to wear."
What made you choose the motifs featured on the designs.
"'Perfect / hardcore' comes from this idea of feeling perfect and complete in your own body. And 'spiralling' is just fun, we can all just up we spiral into a lot of good things in our lives..."
How do you balance client ideas with your own artistic style?
"I have the best clients in the world tbh, and we mostly just brainstorm for a bit before we do the tattoo and end up coming up with an idea that we are both happy with :) usually dont refuse designs, because all my requests are perfect!"
We ask all partners this. What does collaboration mean to you in the small business world?
"I guess its like any relationship, theres a lot of giving and taking and in the end who knows what we will end up with :)"
You’ve built a global fanbase. How do you stay inspired while on the move?
"I feel like for me it is easier to feel inspired and grounded while Im traveling, low-key get bored waking up in the same city for too long.
I love the feeling of not knowing where I am 'ish' and exploring new places and meeting new people, my two favourite things in life."
And what’s in your travel tattoo kit - is there anything sacred you don’t leave home without?
"Soo my current essentials: Chloe bag, pink tattoo machine, matching set sketchbooks, hairclips ( or else I can’t see shi) and skull beanie that I might or might have not stolen at the gas station in LA <3"
Lastly, if you weren’t a tattoo artist, what do you think would you be doing?
"I always wished I could be a sexy fireman but I am allergic to most trees, its so sad."
